The Japanese people from Honda announced their intentions to debut a new fuel efficient 1.6-liter diesel engine at the Paris Motor Show, an event which is just about to start.

The new engine is the first to bear the company’s new Earth Dreams Technology, which translates into a better fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.

The all-new 1.6-liter i-DTEC turbocharged diesel is capable to deliver 118 horsepower at 4,000rpm and 300Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.

The first model to get this unit in Europe, the Civic hatchback, manages to return a fuel consumption of just 3,6 liters/100 km with CO2 emissions of 94 g/km.

The Japanese car maker released no performance figures such as the 0-100 km/h sprint or top speed but it is not very hard to guess how a diesel-powered hatchback performs in these conditions.

Honda will release pricing and availability details on the new frugal Civic version at the Paris Motor Show.
