Mini John Cooper Works the Head of the Line in Power

‘Tis the season for the Detroit Car Show leaks. Mini Cooper hasn’t been left behind with its most powerful rendition of the famous car on the line, the John Cooper Works, JCW for short promises as much as it shows.

Since the focus is on power with this model it is no surprise it boosts a 2.0L engine allowing for a total of 228HP, a maximum of 6000RPM and about 320 Nm torque. What is somewhat surprising is the fact that the engine is joined by a rather standard six-speed gearbox.

The car reaches 100km/h in just under 6.5 seconds which is truly amazing. The top speed for this vehicle is around 245km/h which is not influenced in any way by the transmission choice. Mini’s Paceman is a practic crossover coupe. Mini has a conventional rear seat cup holders along with a 12V power outlet and an iPod holder. The Paceman features unique styling aft of the A-pillars that sets it apart from the rest of the MINI range.

The cabin contains a speedometer mounted in the center of the dash, the steering column-mounted tachometer can be configured with a digital speedometer to approximate a more conventional setup, while an optional Mini Connect infotainment system provides smartphone integration along with access to Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, RSS feeds and more.

The rear seats are perfectly capable of accommodating average-sized adults for around-town trips, in back, there’s room for 11.6 cubic feet of cargo, and 38.1 cubes can be had by folding down the rear seats.

The Paceman is offered in different trims. First powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that produces 121 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual is standard. Fuel economy is 35 mpg highway and 27 mpg in the city with the manual.
Second, the Cooper S Countryman is powered by a turbocharged engine that produces 181 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, a figure that rises to 192 lb-ft.

The Mini Rocketman is only a concept for now, a 3+1 city car and measures just 3.4 meters in length, it uses carbon space frame construction to reduce weight, and it has funky pop-out doors and a pull-out ‘drawer’ style boot.

Mini does claim the car can achieve 94mpg with three liters per 100km.

The removable central control unit can be attached to a PC, allowing music and navigation data to be uploaded ready for your next journey.

Consumers won’t notice entirely that its a new car, but Mini is a very important successful brand, and its retro style is sporty. Its new hatch’s design should eventually migrate in some form or another to the Cooper Coupe, Roadster.

Now the headlights are rounder and canted further back, and inherit what appear to be LED or backlit light-tube accents.

The first official photos of the 2014 Mini Cooper will be launched sometime in October.
The taillights are bigger, there is now a concave scallop between the front and rear fender openings, which obtain subtle dimpling along their circumference. The 2014 Mini Cooper doesn’t look all that different from the current model, but it has an entirely new platform that will be shared with a new crop of small, front-drive BMWs.

There will be gasoline with a turbo four-cylinder engine and diesel 1.5-liter three-cylinder variants. Pricing for the car will be starting from $20,000.

2013 MINI JCW GP officially priced in the US

The British people from MINI released official pricing figures for the high-performance John Cooper Works GP model in the United States.

Starting at $35,950, the new MINI JCW GP benefits from a 1.6-liter turbocharged power plant able to provide 215 horsepower and 280Nm of torque.

The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is possible in 6,3 seconds, the performance numbers being also improved thanks to its total mass of 1,235 kilograms.
