The color itself is not per se bad, but coupled with this particular vehicle it makes quite an awkward statement. It’s not to say it won’t appeal to certain individuals, but surely most will regard it as an overstatement in itself. Read more »

Porsche Mecan

Category: Porsche | Author: | Date: October 6th, 2013

Porsche Macan has underneath an Audi Q5, with some dimensions altered for the Porsche, including its width and height. Macan will have Porsche-specific styling, right down to its sporty door mirrors and intake-riddled front end.

The rear window is steeply raked, and the fast D-pillar is stylishly thick, if detrimental to blind-spot visibility. The Macan will come in two trim levels: S and Turbo. Both will be powered by versions of Porsche’s new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine, which was introduced via the 2014 Panamera. Expect the base S variant to make 340 horsepower, while the more powerful and sportier Turbo will get a solid 400. Regarding the transmission, it has a seven-speed dual-clutch unit.

There will be a starting price of around $45,000.

Porsche 918 Spyder

Category: Porsche | Author: | Date: September 30th, 2013

The 918 Spyder is powered by a mid-mounted V-8 displacing about four liters, making at least 500 hp. The performance: 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds.

The car will have one electric motor at the front axle and one at the rear. The gas engine will drive only the rear wheels, but the electric motors will turn the 918 into an all-wheel-drive car. Feeding electrons to those motors will be a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack. Fully charging the pack will take about seven hours on a 110-volt circuit, although a quick-charge option is likely. The gas engine will ensure that the car can be driven—quickly—regardless of state of charge.

The compact V-8 will sit directly behind the passenger compartment and be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The car will use a carbon-fiber monocoque, and will have a manually removable top that can be stored in the front trunk. Stylistically, it will be very close to the Geneva concept.

The 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder can be had either as a coupe or convertible with accents on the badging, mirrors, seats, dash, and instrumentation, as well as matching brake calipers. It costs between $161,650 and $173,050.

2012 was good to Porsche

Category: Porsche | Author: | Date: March 16th, 2013

Last year, Porsche managed to set a new record in sales: 143.096 units, up from 108.053. And although the Porsche 911, the manufacturer’s legendary car, has seen the highest growth (49%), it was not its top-seller.

Porsche’s most sold vehicle was the Cayenne SUV, with 77.822 units. I, personally, have never been a big fan of the Cayenne. I know it is german quality and high-performance on and off the road, but I never took a liking to it.

Although I understand why it sold so well. Considering the increased demand in the USA, the fastest growing market, it’s no wonder it made top seller. It is estimated that out of four Porsches sold worldwide, one was in the US.
